Scaup (Aythya marila) is a migratory bird that breeds in the circumpolar arctic and subarctic regions in Iceland, Scandinavia, Baltic States, northern Asia and Alaska and Canada. They nest primarily in lakes and wetlands in the tundra and the northern boundary of the taiga, but also nest sparingly on the coast in brackish water, for example, the Baltic Sea.
