The Common Quail
(Coturnix coturnix) occurs in most of Europe's and Asia's temperate parts and less common in Scandinavia. There are also breeding populations in the tropical parts of eastern and southern Africa and Madagascar. The Palearctic populations migrate in winter to subtropical and tropical areas, but also to a few places in southern Europe, Mediterranean, and southern Tibet. The population of tropical Africa are sedentary or move north in winter just like the population in South Africa that winters in an area around Angola.
